Ethiopia’s Future Anchored in Medemer Philosophy, Says PM Abiy

Manila:Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed affirmed that the nation's future path is being shaped by integrating past experiences with present values, rooted in the philosophy of Medemer. This was articulated following his reelection during the first regular session of the House of Peoples' Representatives in the seventh parliamentary term.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, PM Abiy defined Medemer as an indigenous philosophy emphasizing addition, synergy, and collective strength. He noted that Ethiopians have historically embodied Medemer principles through various aspects of social and economic life, such as intermarriage, trade, and mutual support, which have helped maintain unity despite internal and external challenges.

The Prime Minister advocated for learning from other civilizations while developing Ethiopia's institutions from an indigenous base. He stressed that Ethiopia's development model should adapt useful external ideas while respecting local values. Recent reforms have aimed to integrate international experiences with Ethiopia's traditions, guided by Medemer.

The Prime Minister highlighted several initiatives, including a multisector economic strategy, digital transformation efforts, and reforms in state-owned enterprises. He emphasized the importance of modernizing Ethiopia's economy with a focus on digital finance, public services, and infrastructure, all while respecting the Medemer philosophy.

Additionally, PM Abiy pointed to the restoration of historical sites and environmental initiatives, such as the Green Legacy project, as part of Ethiopia's comprehensive development strategy. These efforts aim to enhance tourism, food security, and urban development, contributing to Ethiopia's goal of building a sustainable and resilient economy.
