Ethiopia Aims to Boost Role in Africa’s Investment and Financial Markets

Addis Ababa:Ethiopia is positioning itself as a key investment destination and financial market in Africa, driven by economic reforms and expanding cross-border investment partnerships, according to Speaker of the House of People's Representatives Ahmed Shide.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ahmed spoke at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO Ethiopia Investor Roadshow, organized by the Ethiopian Securities Exchange in collaboration with Dangote Industries Limited. He emphasized that Ethiopia's economic reforms are creating new opportunities for both domestic and international investors and are strengthening Africa's capacity to finance its own development.

Ahmed highlighted the establishment of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority, the Ethiopian Securities Exchange, and supporting market infrastructure as crucial steps in modernizing the country's financial system. These developments are seen as vital for mobilizing long-term capital and presenting significant opportunities for investors and businesses.

The introduction of Dangote Petroleum Refinery's initial public offering to qualified Ethiopian investors exemplifies the growing potential for African businesses to engage across national borders. Ahmed underscored the importance of investor confidence, transparency, regulatory cooperation, and robust investor protection in building a sustainable capital market.

He invited international businesses and financial institutions to take part in Ethiopia's economic transformation, expressing confidence in the country's expanding economy and growing private sector to enhance its position in Africa's investment landscape.

Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote also addressed the event, reaffirming his commitment to expanding investments in Ethiopia. He stressed the group's dedication to reinvesting its earnings locally and building a long-term partnership to support the country's economic transformation.
