Ethiopia Advocates for Prompt Debt Relief to Foster Economic Recovery

Baku:The Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Eyob Tekalign, has emphasized the need for timely debt relief, enhanced creditor coordination, and credible macroeconomic reforms. These measures are crucial for countries to overcome debt distress and achieve sustainable economic growth.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Eyob shared these insights during a keynote address at a high-level roundtable event titled 'Life After Debt How Can Countries Recover and Grow Post-Crises?' Drawing from Ethiopia's experience, Eyob highlighted that resolving debt distress is merely the initial step toward economic recovery. He stressed the importance of converting debt relief into increased investment, enhanced economic resilience, and sustainable growth.

Eyob underscored the necessity of timely and coordinated debt restructuring, which would allow countries to restore economic stability and focus resources on productive investment and development priorities.

He also called for a more responsive international financial framework to help developing countries move beyond debt distress and secure sustainable financing for long-term development. Eyob reaffirmed Ethiopia's commitment to building a resilient, competitive, and investment-driven economy, emphasizing the role of sustained reforms in strengthening the country's economic prospects.
