Mojo:Ethiopia: The Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia has reported significant advancements in logistics, housing, regional infrastructure, and diplomatic engagement during September 2026.
According to the Ethiopian News Agency, major developments were led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. On the eve of the Ethiopian New Year, PM Abiy inaugurated the first phase of the expansion of the Mojo Modern Logistics Hub, which now includes modern terminals and warehouses capable of handling up to one million 20-foot containers annually. This project is seen as a step forward in Ethiopia's implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
In September, a framework agreement was signed between the National Bank of Ethiopia and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to establish Ethiopia's first specialized mortgage refinancing company. This partnership aims to support the construction of 1.5 million affordable homes and encourage private-sector involvement.
Diplomatically, PM Abiy participated in the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit in India, holding discussions with leaders from several countries, including India, Russia, and China. The summit supported Ethiopia's COP32 preparations and its World Trade Organization accession bid. Additionally, Ethiopia was endorsed as Africa's sole candidate for representation at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
PM Abiy also made an official visit to Djibouti to inaugurate the Dewele-Damerjog Refined Petroleum Products Pipeline Project, in collaboration with Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh and Aliko Dangote. The 120-kilometer pipeline integrates marine fuel receiving and coastal storage facilities with domestic storage and distribution facilities.
At the end of September, PM Abiy attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lamu Oil Refinery in Kenya, describing it as crucial for strengthening energy security and advancing regional economic integration in East Africa.
The month concluded with the 2026 Green Legacy Initiative under the theme 'Let Us Plant Hope,' where PM Abiy and First Lady Zinash Tayachew joined a tree-planting program. Additionally, the Prime Minister presented holiday gifts to his staff and donated educational materials to children under the Office's care.
