Ethiopia Closes Asmara Embassy and Expels Eritrean Diplomats

Addis Ababa:Ethiopia: Ethiopia has decided to close its embassy in Asmara, Eritrea, and declared 10 Eritrean diplomats in Addis Ababa persona non grata, requiring them to leave the country within 48 hours.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, this decision was made in response to Eritrea's direct and indirect acts of hostility and belligerence against Ethiopia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the expulsion of the diplomats was due to their involvement in activities that threaten Ethiopia's national security, violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The Ministry urged the Eritrean government to stop actions that contradict the principles governing relations between sovereign states. Despite these measures, Ethiopia emphasized its continued appreciation for its historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties with Eritrea and remains committed to peaceful coexistence, regional stability, and integration.

Furthermore, the Ministry reaffirmed Ethiopia's dedication to peacefully resolving disputes and cooperating with countries in the Horn of Africa to promote lasting peace, security, and regional integration.
