Bahir Dar:The Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa is set to hold its 12th annual meeting from October 23 to 25, focusing on the theme 'Pathways to Peace in Africa Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation.'
According to Ethiopian News Agency, preparations for the Forum are well underway, as stated by Fitsum Girma, Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event aims to provide a platform for African leaders to engage in open discussions on the continent's peace and security issues.
The Forum is expected to attract leaders from various countries, former leaders, and heads of regional and international institutions. It will particularly emphasize discussions on East African security challenges and encourage bilateral engagements among leaders.
Lettie T. Longwe, Head of the Tana Forum Secretariat, highlighted that the Forum will also facilitate a consultation with Pan-African scholars in collaboration with Bahir Dar University, with over 250 participants anticipated to join.
Mercy Fekadu, Director of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University, emphasized that the Forum offers both formal and informal opportunities for dialogue, allowing leaders to engage deeply on regional security issues.
The Tana Forum has established itself as a significant platform for African-led dialogue on peace and development, addressing complex security, economic, and geopolitical challenges faced by the continent.
