Manila:The newly established government has committed to strengthening Ethiopia's multinational unity, peace, and dialogue, while furthering the nation's development and prosperity, as stated by President Taye Atske Selassie.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, President Taye addressed the joint session of the House of People's Representatives and the House of Federation, emphasizing the government's focus on maintaining unity in Ethiopia. He highlighted the importance of a shared national vision, common aspirations, and a spirit of service that considers future generations.
President Taye underscored the need for greater depth of thought, broad knowledge, high moral standards, ownership, and determination to achieve Ethiopia's national and strategic goals. He also emphasized discipline, hard work, and a productive work culture as key elements in improving citizens' living standards.
The President pointed out the government's goal to transform Ethiopia's political culture by promoting peace, dialogue, knowledge, and mutual understanding. He mentioned efforts to end armed conflict and move away from confrontational political practices. The government plans to implement recommendations from the National Dialogue Conference into practical actions.
President Taye stressed Ethiopia's continuous commitment to comprehensive growth, highlighting the importance of technological self-reliance, strategic defense, and internal capacity. He praised the Ethiopian Defense Force and federal security forces for their role in protecting citizens and national sovereignty.
He also recognized the Ethiopian people's desire for peace and stability, rejecting war and violence. President Taye noted that the country's prosperity depends on eliminating political practices that fuel conflict and fostering an environment conducive to peace and development.
The President expressed confidence that attempts to draw Ethiopia back into cycles of violence would fail, calling on citizens to show commitment through productive work and national responsibility. He urged optimism in approaching Ethiopia's national dialogue and strategic ambitions, defining Ethiopianism in daily interactions.
President Taye concluded by stating that protecting Ethiopia and advancing national prosperity is a shared responsibility of all citizens, not just the government. He expressed faith in the government's capacity and commitment to fulfill the trust placed in it, wishing the Ethiopian people a successful and prosperous 2019 Ethiopian Year.
