Egypt Accused of Massacre in Sudanese Mining Area

Siena:Reports have emerged accusing Egypt of killing at least 200 Sudanese miners and injuring numerous others in an attack on mining sites in Sudan's North Al-Wadi area.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the attacks are believed to be part of Egypt's efforts to influence Sudan's ongoing conflict for its own benefit. Abdulshakur Abdulsamad, a Senior Researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies and Regional Integration Initiative, suggests that Egypt aims to prolong the war to exploit Sudan's water resources, as the conflict has allowed Egypt access to more water than usual.

Egypt reportedly conducted airstrikes on mining sites in the Shamal al-Wadi area in Sudan's northeastern Red Sea region on October 10. The Civil Democratic Alliance of the Forces of the Revolution, known as Somoud, confirmed these airstrikes and condemned the Egyptian military for targeting civilians within Sudanese territory.

Somoud stated that the targeting of civilians is unacceptable and cannot be justified on security grounds. The alliance holds the leadership appointed by the Sudanese Armed Forces accountable for the incidents in areas under their control. They demand that authorities publicly clarify their stance on the attacks and have called for an independent investigation, protective measures for miners, emergency medical care for those affected, and guarantees to prevent future attacks.
