Ambassadors Praise Ethiopia for Free and Credible Election

Addis ababa: Ambassadors have congratulated Ethiopians for conducting a free, fair, and credible general election, saying the process reflected strong democratic practice and broad public participation.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Nasir Amino, commended the people for delivering a credible electoral process and congratulated the Prosperity Party led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for winning the 7th General Election. He also highlighted Ethiopia’s use of technology to encourage voter participation and appreciated the high voter turnout, calling it unprecedented in Africa.

Ambassador Amino further stated that the government had made extensive arrangements to ensure that voters cast their ballots and safeguards were put in place to protect the integrity of the election. ‘We congratulate the country,’ he said, adding that other African nations should learn from Ethiopia’s democratic experience.

Ghana’s Ambassador McArios Akanbong remarked that Ethiopia has once again demonstrated that elections could be conducted in a peaceful, free, and fair manner. He noted that the public was taking civic responsibility seriously without animosity and suggested that Ethiopia and Ghana could pool their efforts to support other countries seeking to strengthen democratic governance.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Nirmala Indum described the election as being held ‘very democratically,’ adding that Ethiopians were able to express their voting rights. Portugal’s Ambassador Jorge Pereira Do Nascimento emphasized the high participation of the Ethiopian people and the orderly conduct of voting as the most significant achievements of the election. He also expressed hope that the outcome will support the country’s continued development across economic and social dimensions, improving the quality of life for Ethiopians.
