Addis Ababa:The Addis Ababa City Council has unanimously reappointed Adanech Abiebie as Mayor, granting her another term to lead the capital's administration.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the decision was made during the Council's fourth session at the Adwa Victory Memorial. Council members praised Adanech's leadership and administrative performance in advancing infrastructure projects, reforming the city's working culture, and expanding citizen-centered services.
The Council also highlighted her extensive experience, which began as an educator in the Oromia region and continued with various leadership roles in federal institutions. They noted her previous tenure's impact on Addis Ababa's urban landscape and infrastructure development.
Following her reappointment, Adanech took the oath of office, marking the start of her new term. In her inaugural address, she emphasized that public office is a responsibility to citizens and vowed to combat corruption and illicit market practices.
She stated that the administration's success will be measured by improvements in residents' daily lives, focusing on easing the cost of living, expanding employment for youth, enhancing public services, and addressing housing, healthcare, and infrastructure needs.
Adanech also outlined plans to advance the Digital Ethiopia 2030 vision by expanding digital services and reducing bureaucracy. She pledged to tackle market manipulation and illegal brokerage, promoting market stability and consumer protection.
Furthermore, the Mayor expressed her commitment to economic inclusion by supporting micro and small enterprises and creating opportunities for youth and women, aiming to reduce reliance on aid.
