Addis Ababa:Members of a visiting Tanzanian delegation have praised Ethiopia’s systematic documentation of its heritage, highlighting the country's use of modern technology to preserve and display historical records as an exemplary model for educating future generations.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the delegation, on a three-day visit to engage with capital market institutions in Ethiopia, visited Unity Park and the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum. They explored Ethiopia's rich history, culture, and preservation practices during this visit.
Martin W. Kolikoli, a member of the delegation, expressed admiration for Ethiopia’s meticulous documentation of historical events across various periods. This systematic approach, he noted, allows visitors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the country's historical development. After visiting Unity Park in Addis Ababa, Kolikoli commended the integration of modern technology and digital platforms in presenting historical accounts, describing it as an effective method for heritage preservation and public accessibility to historical information.
Kolikoli remarked that this presentation enabled visitors to appreciate Ethiopia’s past more deeply, providing an experience akin to witnessing historical events firsthand. He highlighted the valuable lessons Tanzania could learn from Ethiopia's approach, particularly in systematically documenting historical developments and applying science and technology to national heritage preservation. He also emphasized the educational benefits of digital platforms in enhancing visitors’ understanding of historical sites.
Eliad E. Mndeme, another delegate, shared his insights after visiting the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum. The visit, he stated, broadened his understanding of Ethiopia's history, particularly the historic Battle of Adwa. Although familiar with Ethiopia’s victory over Italian forces, Mndeme found that the museum provided a clearer understanding of the events and the courage shown by Ethiopians in defending their sovereignty. He praised the museum's efforts to preserve and present the country's historical heritage, noting that its modern facilities and comprehensive documentation serve as a crucial educational resource for younger generations.
Mndeme stressed that preserving historical heritage should transcend mere commemoration of past events. It should serve as a tool to educate young people about the sacrifices and contributions of previous generations, inspiring them to shape their country's future. He urged young individuals to visit historical institutions like the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum to deepen their understanding of history and learn from their forefathers' experiences.
The Tanzanian visitors emphasized the importance of documenting, preserving, and presenting historical heritage through modern technologies. Such initiatives, they noted, ensure that the experiences and contributions of previous generations remain accessible to future generations.
