Addis Ababa:A specialized school outreach program aimed at educating the new generation about the historical Victory of Adwa and the unity of its peoples is set to be launched soon, as announced by the Adwa Victory Memorial.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the program seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Adwa Victory, a pivotal event where Ethiopians united to repel an invasion, asserting their independence and inspiring Black people worldwide to fight against oppression.
Efforts are being made to ensure this significant victory is passed down to future generations through education and research. Mekuanent Tilahun, the Adwa Victory Memorial Study and Research Director, explained that the memorial aims to become a platform for Ethiopians and Africans to engage in discussions about their shared history and unity.
Tilahun also mentioned the importance of the current generation learning from history to help build a stronger Ethiopia. The monthly public discussion forums serve as educational venues, fostering a shared narrative that reinforces Ethiopian unity.
The upcoming "Adwa Forum," scheduled for February, will coincide with the launch of the School Outreach program. This initiative will educate students from pre-primary to secondary levels about Adwa, Ethiopian culture, and unity. Preparations for the program, including a Memorandum of Understanding with the Addis Ababa City Administration Education Bureau, are already underway.
Similarly, initiatives to facilitate discussion-oriented activities in higher education institutions are in progress, ensuring that the legacy of Adwa is preserved and celebrated across all educational levels.
