Accra:The Speaker of the House of People's Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, has emphasized the need for the effective implementation of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission's (ENDC) recommendations, asserting that these outcomes must be taken seriously.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Tagesse made these remarks during a significant ceremony where the ENDC formally presented its consolidated agenda items and recommendations to the House of People's Representatives, the House of Federation, 12 regional state administrations, and the Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations.
The Speaker praised the dedication and perseverance of the 11 commissioners of the ENDC, highlighting the national dialogue as a crucial step toward resolving Ethiopia's historical differences through peaceful and inclusive consultation. He acknowledged Ethiopia's proud history of defending its sovereignty but pointed out the country's ongoing challenges in addressing internal issues through dialogue.
Tagesse attributed recurring tensions and conflicts to competing historical narratives, political disagreements, and economic divisions. He noted that the government has initiated broad reforms to tackle these longstanding challenges, commending the establishment of the ENDC as a significant platform for fostering understanding and seeking common ground among Ethiopians.
He also praised Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his political commitment in initiating reforms to address public demands. Tagesse emphasized that the conclusion of the national dialogue should mark the beginning of a continuous effort to implement its recommendations effectively.
He assured participants that the legislative and executive branches would establish strong follow-up and monitoring mechanisms to ensure the recommendations are put into action, which he believes will enhance peace, national stability, and a shared foundation for Ethiopia's future.
