Jimma: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has pledged to transform Jimma city of Ethiopia and initiated ten directions to be executed in order to make it an international city.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Prime Minister has identified key areas for development to leverage Jimma's existing strengths and potential. The plan includes increasing the production of high-quality and specialty coffee, a move aimed at capitalizing on Jimma's reputation in the coffee industry. Additionally, the introduction of diverse organic tea products is proposed to cater to both local and international markets.

The initiative also emphasizes the utilization of natural fertilizers to produce, package, and export high-quality fruit products. Enhancing the quality and export of beef, milk, poultry, and eggs to meet international standards is another crucial aspect of the plan. Furthermore, the development of a competitive spice industry through processing and packaging is envisioned to reach global markets.

The strategic directions also include establishing factory-level production of internationally standardized wood products. The development of ceramic factories to produce quality flooring, wall, and roofing materials for both local construction and export is also highlighted.

In addition, the plan seeks to leverage Jimma's natural, religious, and cultural heritage to position the city as a key tourism destination. Strengthening Jimma's well-known spirit of peace and hospitality, as well as enhancing work ethics while transforming harmful cultural practices, are also integral components of the initiative.
