PM Abiy Urges Unity and Shared Responsibility on Ethiopia’s National Flag Day

Siena:Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has urged Ethiopians to enhance national unity and embrace diversity as the country commemorates its 19th National Flag Day with the theme 'Our Flag for National Consensus and Unity.'

According to Ethiopian News Agency, in a message for the occasion, PM Abiy emphasized national unity as the cornerstone of Ethiopia's journey towards prosperity, highlighting the national flag as a symbol of shared history, sovereignty, and strength in diversity.

Reflecting on the Battle of Adwa, he noted how Ethiopians from various regions united against a common challenge, showcasing the power of collective action and national solidarity to the world. The legacy of Adwa, he said, continues to inspire each generation to overcome divisions and safeguard the nation's future.

The Prime Minister discussed 'Medemer,' Ethiopia's philosophy of synergy and collective progress, urging citizens to actively participate in shaping the country's destiny rather than remaining passive observers. He emphasized that Ethiopia's languages, religions, and identities are essential components of a unified national fabric forged through centuries of shared history.

Abiy also mentioned that genuine commitment to the nation begins with individual acts of courage and service, guided by a vision that transcends personal interests for the common good. He paid homage to previous generations whose sacrifices preserved the country, calling on current generations to build on that legacy for a prosperous future.

Concluding his message, PM Abiy challenged every Ethiopian to consider their personal contribution to national unity and development, asserting that the country's future relies on the shared commitment of its citizens. National Flag Day is a time to reaffirm values of sovereignty, unity, and collective responsibility, with the flag as a symbol of Ethiopia's enduring history and aspirations for a common future.
