New Interim Administration Planned for Ethiopia’s Tigray Region

Addis Ababa:Preparations are being made to establish a new interim administration in the Tigray Region, setting the stage for regional elections within the coming months, according to Abraham Belay, the former President of the Tigray Interim Administration.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Abraham Belay stated that the Federal Government is actively working on creating a new administrative structure that will allow the people of Tigray to self-govern, aiming to restore peace and stability in the region.

He mentioned that the Ethiopian National Defense Force is conducting operations to eliminate illegal armed forces from Tigray. Once these operations are complete, new administrative structures will be organized from the kebele level with the direct involvement of the community.

Abraham highlighted that efforts are being accelerated to finalize the transition swiftly and to conduct regional elections within months. He urged all Ethiopians to support federal initiatives to complete the transitional phase, enabling the people of Tigray to participate fully in national development.

Addressing the wider security concerns, he noted that both internal and external elements are attempting to destabilize Ethiopia. He specifically pointed out the involvement of Eritrean forces in the conflict, alongside the TPLF and groups he described as "anti-peace forces."

Despite these challenges, Abraham expressed confidence in national security institutions, emphasizing their military discipline, advanced technological capabilities, and operational readiness to counter these threats. He also noted increasing local opposition to destabilizing forces, asserting that the people of Tigray have rejected destructive political paths.
