IGAD Congratulates Ethiopia on Successful 7th General Elections

Addis ababa: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has congratulated the Government and people of Ethiopia on the successful conduct of the country’s 7th General Elections, held on 1 June 2026.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the regional bloc issued a statement through its Secretariat, highlighting the election process as a testament to Ethiopia’s commitment to democratic governance and constitutional order. IGAD extended its congratulations to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Prosperity Party for securing a majority, following the official results announcement by the National Election Board of Ethiopia on 21 June 2026.

IGAD applauded the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) for its professionalism and dedication in managing the electoral process. The regional organization also praised Ethiopian citizens for their peaceful participation, which was pivotal in ensuring the orderly and successful conduct of the polls.

The Secretariat emphasized that the elections reflect Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and maintain constitutional governance. It expressed confidence in Ethiopia’s pursuit of national unity, inclusive dialogue, and policies aimed at advancing peace, stability, and sustainable development.

Recognizing Ethiopia’s crucial role in the Horn of Africa, IGAD underscored the importance of continued cooperation to address regional challenges and promote shared prosperity.
