Addis Ababa:Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has pledged that Ethiopia will continue to assert its national interests independently and enhance its influence as a key regional player, leveraging the nation's intrinsic strength and economic growth potential.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, in his address to the House of People's Representatives after being sworn in for a new term, PM Abiy emphasized the importance of securing reliable maritime access as part of Ethiopia's long-term national and developmental strategy. He stated that his administration will pursue sea access through dialogue and mutual agreements, advancing national development and infrastructure projects.
Reviewing the nation's recent political and economic challenges, the Prime Minister highlighted Ethiopia's resilience in overcoming both internal and external pressures that threatened its development. He cited the nation's perseverance during the COVID-19 pandemic and its resolve in completing the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, despite facing international criticism.
Abiy underscored Ethiopia's achievements in sectors like agriculture and infrastructure, noting significant progress in wheat production and the completion of major water projects. These developments, he said, demonstrate Ethiopia's ability to turn ambitions into practical results.
Looking forward, PM Abiy outlined a comprehensive agenda for the new parliamentary term, focusing on institutional reforms, economic transformation, and political dialogue. The administration plans constitutional updates, macroeconomic reforms, and enhanced cooperation with neighboring countries, while also tackling corruption and modernizing government services.
