Ethiopia’s Economic Reforms Attract Investment Opportunities

Accra:The ongoing transformation in Ethiopia's economic policy landscape is creating significant opportunities for both regional and international investment, according to Peter Ashade, Chief Executive Officer of United Capital Group PLC.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ashade praised the Ethiopian government's strategic policy direction in an exclusive interview, highlighting the opening of the economy to foreign investors as a major milestone for the nation's financial sector development.

United Capital Group has recently been granted an official regulatory license to operate and provide investment banking and financial services in Ethiopia. This positions the firm as a key player in the country's emerging financial market.

Ashade described the establishment of crucial capital market infrastructure, including the licensing of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), as transformative for the country's economic empowerment. He emphasized that capital markets are crucial for achieving substantial economic development, drawing comparisons to successful regional benchmarks.

He noted that the maturation of Ethiopia's macroeconomic and regulatory frameworks, particularly the shift toward a market-determined foreign exchange regime, has significantly improved the investment climate. Predictable policy frameworks and government-backed profit repatriation guarantees provide international investors with the necessary confidence to commit long-term capital.

Ashade commended the Ethiopian government's strong political will and bold reform initiatives, noting the importance of opening up the economy to foreign direct investment. He drew parallels to Nigeria's capital market depth, which has enabled large-scale corporate mobilizations, underscoring the critical role of a thriving capital market in boosting national economic growth.

Furthermore, Ashade welcomed the National Bank of Ethiopia's efforts to align regulations with international standards, indicating a disciplined environment that international investors can trust. As Ethiopia continues to advance its market liberalization policies, financial sector leaders view the nation as one of Africa's most promising growth frontiers.
