Manila:The joint session marking the opening of the 7th year of the House of Peoples' Representatives and the House of Federation was held today, where President Taye Atske-Selassie presented the government's strategic priorities.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the session commenced with President Taye emphasizing various critical areas including the economy, security, social affairs, diplomacy, and regional matters. The President underscored the successes in the economic sector, noting that these achievements underpin Ethiopia's economic sovereignty.
The President highlighted the strides made in agriculture, export trade, tourism, industry, and the digital sector, which have collectively accelerated economic growth. He attributed this growth to the government's decision to halt commercial borrowing and its improved capacity to complete delayed infrastructure projects efficiently.
President Taye also pointed to the government's 10-year development plan, which has fostered a multi-sectoral economic approach. He noted that the government's tight monetary and fiscal policies have strengthened revenue-collection capabilities, further promoting economic resilience. The session also saw the re-appointment of Dr. Abiy Ahmed as Prime Minister by the House of Peoples' Representatives.
