Addis Ababa:Ethiopia has been working to create a more dynamic financial system and economy through a series of macroeconomic reforms, according to National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) Governor Eyob Tekalign. These reforms aim to address structural issues, enhance financial access, and strengthen institutions.According to Ethiopian News Agency, Governor Eyob discussed these initiatives during a conversation at the Ethiopia Finance Forum 2026 in Addis Ababa. Eyob highlighted the importance of improving housing finance and mortgage policy to alleviate the financial burden on households. The governor stressed the need for digitalization to be supported by reliable infrastructure, emphasizing the role of trust in ensuring effective and secure digital systems. Financial literacy is also a key component, enabling citizens to understand and utilize financial services effectively.Eyob called for collaborative efforts among investors, development partners, and citizens to drive national development, warning that waiting for certainty might lead to missed opportunities. He urged that reforms should be seen as a continuous process involving implementation, monitoring, and accountability, rather than mere slogans or statements. The ultimate goal is to bui ld a financial system capable of creating better opportunities for future generations.
