Addis Ababa: A continental conference on peace, prosperity, and development, themed "Building a Peaceful and Prosperous Africa," kicked off today in Addis Ababa. Among high-ranking government officials at the occasion are President Taye Atskesilassie, Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives Tagese Chafo, Speaker of the House Federation Agegnew Teshager, and Minister of Peace, Benalf Andualem.According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ramiz Alakbarov, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ethiopia, and Ambassador Bankole Adewoye, the African Union Commissioner for Political, Peace, and Security Affairs, were also present. The conference focuses on governance challenges, peacebuilding efforts, promotion of Africa's Agenda 2063, fostering continental integration as well as encouraging Pan-Africanism and sharing Ethiopia's experience in peacebuilding initiatives.The event serves as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective action towards achieving a more peaceful and united Africa. Participants will explore innovative approaches to overcoming governance obstacles and developing sustainable peace frameworks that promote social cohesion, justice, and democratic governance.Ethiopia's contributions to global and regional peace, from its role in the Korean War to its ongoing peacekeeping mission in Somalia, will be highlighted.
