Moscow:Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has arrived in Moscow, Russia, to participate in the Third Russia–Africa Summit. He was received by senior Russian government officials and members of the diplomatic corps upon his arrival.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, leaders and high-level delegations from across Africa are gathering in Moscow for the summit, which aims to advance multilateral partnerships, economic cooperation, and strategic dialogue between Russia and African nations.
Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Russia have a long history, spanning more than a century and rooted in historic solidarity, cultural links, and ongoing diplomatic coordination. In recent years, cooperation between Addis Ababa and Moscow has expanded significantly across key sectors, with a substantial increase in bilateral trade turnover.
The two nations are also exploring joint initiatives in civil nuclear energy technology and capacity building. Furthermore, they have intensified coordination across global governance platforms following Ethiopia's official accession as a full member of BRICS on January 1, 2024.
The Russia–Africa Summit serves as an institutional platform for high-level political, economic, and strategic engagement between Russia and African countries. The inaugural summit, launched in Sochi in October 2019, established a structured mechanism for regular high-level dialogue. This framework was further advanced during the Second Summit in St. Petersburg in July 2023, focusing on energy security, food supplies, and industrial cooperation.
The Third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow brings together heads of state, government ministers, and representatives of international organizations. It coincides with the Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which aims to strengthen economic partnerships, expand trade, and advance long-term cooperation frameworks.
