Addis ababa: The 74th Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Council of Ministers convened in Djibouti today to address and review the key regional developments and challenges impacting the region.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Foreign Affairs State Minister Hadera Abera took part in the session, where discussions focused on regional peace and security, the evolving situation in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandab, and developments in Sudan, Somalia, and South Sudan, among others. The session emphasized the potential role of IGAD in facilitating dialogue, promoting political solutions, and supporting regional peace and stability.
The ministers also evaluated the current financial and institutional status of IGAD, highlighting the necessity to enhance the organization's institutional capacity, financial sustainability, and operational effectiveness. This enhancement is deemed essential for IGAD to effectively fulfill its mandate and address emerging regional challenges.
