Ethiopia’s FM Gedion Confers with EU Commissioner on Health and Security Cooperation

Addis ababa: Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos today received and held discussions with the European Union Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib. During the meeting, the conversation primarily focused on cooperation in global health and regional security issues.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Minister Gedion expressed his appreciation for the European Union's support and solidarity on global health issues, highlighting the recent cooperation in tackling the Ebola outbreak as a significant example. He emphasized that the support provided to the Africa CDC represents a crucial step toward enhancing collective efforts to manage potential global health threats.

The Minister also took the opportunity to brief Commissioner Lahbib on the ongoing peace and security issues in the Horn of Africa. Commissioner Lahbib, in response, reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Africa. She emphasized the importance of collaboration to address shared health and humanitarian challenges, underscoring the EU's dedication to working closely with African nations.
