Addis Ababa:Ethiopia is commemorating the 119th Defense Forces Day under the theme 'Army of Victory' at the Armed Forces General Headquarters. The event honors the history, traditions, and sacrifices of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF).
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the ceremony was attended by Chief of General Staff Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Minister of Defense Mohammed Idris, and other senior government officials. Federal Police leaders, military attachés, diplomats from various countries, and invited guests from different segments of society also participated, highlighting the national significance of the occasion.
Defense Forces Day is an annual observance marking the establishment of Ethiopia's modern defense forces, dating back to Tikimt 15, 1900, in the Ethiopian calendar, when the first Minister of War was appointed. This event is a tribute to military personnel who have sacrificed their lives for Ethiopia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and recognizes the contributions of past and present servicemen and women.
The commemoration aims to preserve the ENDF's history, heroism, and traditions while ensuring that its legacy of service and sacrifice is passed to future generations. This year's theme, 'Army of Victory,' emphasizes the defense forces' continuing role in safeguarding national sovereignty and honors the achievements and sacrifices of those who have served the nation.
