Addis ababa: The long-standing Ethiopia and Germany bilateral cooperation, driven by shared values, is getting stronger in various spheres, Germany's Deputy Ambassador Ferdinand von Weyhe said. In an exclusive interview with ENA, the German Deputy Ambassador in Ethiopia described the two countries' long-standing strong cooperation as not only government-driven but also people-driven.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the cooperation in the agriculture sector is particularly strong, significant, and long-standing. The collaboration aims to boost production and productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve transportation to facilitate the movement of products from the field to the marketplace.
Stressing the importance of enhancing production and productivity, Deputy Ambassador von Weyhe emphasized the need to scale up efforts. He highlighted that reducing post-harvest losses is a vital step in increasing production, noting significant progress in logistics for agricultural products, resulting in reduced losses.
Elaborating on the historic partnership between the two nations, Deputy Ambassador von Weyhe noted that their bilateral diplomatic relations have spanned 120 years. This year marks the 120th anniversary of the Axum expedition, a historic collaboration between German and Ethiopian archaeologists.
He expressed satisfaction that the cooperation extends beyond history, with ongoing joint archaeological efforts at the temple and city of Yeha, near Adwa, involving German and Ethiopian archaeologists.
Highlighting cultural and educational ties, last year marked the 70th anniversary of the German School in Addis Ababa. The Deputy Ambassador noted that it serves as an excellent platform for official interaction between governments, artists, scientists, universities, and even children.
Deputy Ambassador von Weyhe concluded by expressing his happiness about the robust cooperation in numerous fields between Ethiopia and Germany. The two countries share formal diplomatic relations that have endured for over 120 years, characterized by strong cooperation in development, economic, cultural, social, and political spheres.
