Addis ababa: Heads of African Defense Forces attending the five-day 2026 African Logistics and Communications Symposium have commended Ethiopia's longstanding leading role in peace and security of the continent.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Uganda People's Defense Forces Air-Force Director of Logistics, Colonel William Wabwire, stated that Ethiopia's commitment in promoting peace and security across the African continent is clearly evident. He noted Ethiopia's contribution of troops to various missions throughout the region, including Somalia, highlighting the country's dedication to fostering stability.
Colonel Wabwire also emphasized the need for collaboration among African nations in managing logistics and communications. He stressed the importance of understanding the workings of logistics and enhancing communication across Africa, noting that cooperation is crucial and nations cannot work in isolation.
He further remarked on the significance of Ethiopia's effort in hosting the symposium, alongside other African countries, as a vital step towards promoting peace and security.
Similarly, Colonel Adegnika Serges, Head of Cabinet at the Benin Army Headquarters, acknowledged Ethiopia's significant contributions to Africa as the seat of the African Union. He praised Ethiopia's efforts in regional and continental security and expressed hope that Ethiopia will continue to play a pivotal role in the future.
Colonel Serges emphasized the importance of strengthening collaborations among African countries to address rising challenges on the continent. He underscored the need for reinforced cooperation to effectively tackle contemporary and future challenges.
Kenya Defense Forces Communication Officer, Colonel Richard Kipkurui, reiterated Ethiopia's prominent role at the continental level, citing its position as the headquarters of the African Union. He expressed that the symposium being held in Addis Ababa is fitting and stressed that African problems are best solved by Africans themselves. Colonel Kipkurui encouraged Ethiopia to continue leading the continent's agenda and emphasized the necessity of collaboration in addressing shared challenges.
The 2026 African Logistics and Communications Symposium, co-hosted by Ethiopia and the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), commenced in Addis Ababa on Monday. The event brings together military leaders, defense experts, and industry partners to discuss critical issues affecting the continent.
