Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Marks Milestone in Peace and Growth: AUC Commissioner

Addis ababa: Ethiopia's national dialogue is being hailed as a pivotal step towards achieving sustainable peace and growth, with its stability and unity deemed crucial for the region and the continent, according to African Union Political Affairs, Peace and Security Commissioner Bankole Adeoye.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Commissioner Adeoye, while addressing the opening of Ethiopia's National Dialogue Conference, praised the depth and participation in the dialogue, highlighting the African Union's enthusiasm in being part of this significant event. He emphasized that the national dialogue is a testimony and landmark for Ethiopia, essential for achieving enduring peace and development.

The Commissioner noted that the dialogue serves as a demonstration of Ethiopia's resolve to maintain stability, representing a wide spectrum of society. He reiterated the African Union's commitment to supporting the dialogue's successful completion and stressed the importance of indigenous solutions for sustainable growth and enduring peace.

Adeoye also highlighted Ethiopia's critical role in the region and on the continent, given its status as the diplomatic capital of Africa and the seat of the African Union Commission. He reaffirmed the AUC's dedication to collaborating with Ethiopia in its quest for lasting peace, stability, and sustainable growth.

The historic national dialogue conference sees participation from 4,000 Ethiopian representatives, who will engage in three weeks of structured discussions. These discussions are guided by eight major agenda pillars, which were developed from priorities and concerns raised during extensive consultations with citizens.

Formed in 2021, the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission is an independent body tasked with facilitating an inclusive national dialogue. Its goal is to build consensus on historically divisive issues and contribute to lasting peace, stability, and national unity.
