Addis ababa: Ethiopia's Green Legacy initiative has been hailed as a significant global inspiration by Colombia's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Yeison Arcadio Meneses Copete. He stated, "The Green Legacy policy, led by the Prime Minister, is seen as an inspirational effort for various nations and leaders. It is crucial for leaders to convey the challenges of climate change to ensure participation from citizens, politicians, and scholars in various initiatives."Launched in 2019, the Green Legacy initiative has seen the planting of over 48 billion seedlings across Ethiopia, aiming to restore ecological balance, improve food security, a nd enhance biodiversity. This massive reforestation campaign is a testament to African-led climate action, reducing carbon emissions and building climate resilience.Ethiopia's selection to host the global COP32 summit in 2027, following its successful bid at the COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil, underscores the country's growing influence in climate diplomacy. Ambassador Copete highlighted the opportunity for Ethiopia and Colombia to collaborate and share experiences from Colombia's hosting of COP16.
