BONO REGION: The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in the Bono Region has reported a marginal reduction in road crashes, as informed by Madam Abigail Atinpoka, the Acting Bono Regional Head of the NRSA. The region has seen a decrease in the number of crashes, deaths, and injuries compared to the previous year.
According to Ghana News Agency, the region recorded 102 crashes from January to September 2023, which resulted in 29 deaths and 99 injuries. This marks a decrease from the 103 crashes, 59 deaths, and 139 injuries recorded in the same period in 2022. The reduction is attributed to intensified road safety education campaigns undertaken by the Authority in the region.
The NRSA conducted vigorous education outreaches at bus terminals, lorry stations, and major marketplaces to sensitize commercial drivers, station officers, and passengers on safety and regulations. Madam Atinpoka commended the support from other road agencies and transport unions, including the police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD). She emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in ensuring road safety and called on everyone to contribute to a crash-free society.
Madam Atinpoka also urged passengers to monitor drivers' behaviors, such as speeding, wrongful overtaking, and overloading, to further reduce preventable crashes on highways.
