Sefwi-Wiawso, Western North Region – The Sefwi-Wiawso traditional council has announced the lifting of a ban on funerals, following the conclusion of this year's Elluo Festival. The ban, effective from October 19, was imposed to facilitate the smooth celebration of the 2023 Elluo festival, which officially ended on November 16.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Gyedomhene of the Council and Secretary to the festival's central planning committee, funerals are now permitted throughout the Sefwi-Wiawso traditional area.
The statement, shared with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), highlighted the council's appreciation for the adherence of residents to the directive during the festival period. Nana Panyin III also extended gratitude to the festival's sponsors and acknowledged the presence of the President of Ghana at the grand durbar. The lifting of the funeral ban marks the end of the ceremonial period and signifies a return to normalcy in the region's cultural practices.
