Accra, Ghana - The Board of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has announced Samuel Sakyi-Hyde as the new Acting Chief Executive Officer. The announcement, made in a statement in Accra, was relayed by Kofi Sarfo Akyea from the Corporate Communications Department of UMB.
According to Ghana News Agency, Sakyi-Hyde, a prominent figure in Ghanaian banking with nearly three decades of experience, is expected to lead the bank's growth strategy while the executive succession process is finalized, in compliance with regulatory and statutory guidelines. His career highlights include a tenure as CEO at UniCredit Ghana Limited and, since 2019, the role of General Manager of Consumer Banking at UMB.
George Smith Graham, the Board Chairman at UMB, emphasized that Sakyi-Hyde's appointment is part of the bank's succession protocol and reflects the robust governance framework of UMB. Succeeding Nana Dwemoh Benneh, Sakyi-Hyde is commended for his achievements, particularly in bringing the Consumer Banking Division of UMB into profitability for the first time in ten years. Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Sakyi-Hyde affirmed his commitment to UMB's growth strategy, emphasizing a focus on SME dominance and digital-led offerings. He acknowledged the bank's strong brand and solid business fundamentals and pledged to continue delivering a uniquely Ghanaian perspective in world-class banking, in line with UMB's legacy since its establishment in 1972.
