PRESEC Secures Eighth Victory in 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz

Accra: The Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School (PRESEC) clinched the top spot in the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), marking their eighth victory in the esteemed competition. By the contest's conclusion, PRESEC amassed 40 points. Trailing behind were Achimota School with 28 points and Opoku Ware School securing 23 points.

According to Ghana News Agency, PRESEC was awarded a prize of GHS 70,000 for their achievement. Achimota School and Opoku Ware School received GHS 50,000 and GHS 35,000, respectively. Notably, PRESEC remains the sole school to have claimed the title in two consecutive years and boasts the highest wins at eight titles.

In addition to the main awards, special accolades were bestowed upon students and teams that demonstrated exceptional prowess throughout the quiz. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, praised Primetime Limited for consistently hosting the competition for the past three decades. He highlighted the NSMQ as a pivotal platform for fostering young talent, aligning with the government's focus on Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Mrs. Nana Akua Mensa-Bonsu, Managing Director of Primetime Limited, disclosed ambitious plans for the competition's future. By 2025, the organization envisions an All Africa Science and Maths Quiz that would extend invitations to interested African nations. Emphasizing the potential significance of such a competition, she stated, "In the spirit of our interest in the African Continental Free Trade Area AfCFTA, an intellectual competition of the calibre of the NSMQ, can and should be exported."

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the NSMQ, which has been promoting academic excellence since its inception in 1993.
