Kumasi, Ghana - The murder trial of Inspector Ahmed Twumasi at the Kumasi High Court 2, regarding the shooting of his girlfriend in Adum, has been adjourned to December 4, 2023, due to a nationwide juror strike. The court, facing the absence of a seven-member jury required for the trial, had no choice but to postpone the proceedings.
According to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) , Mrs. Rosemary Baah Tosu, the ongoing strike action by jurors across the country was the primary cause of the adjournment. The strike, which has been in effect since March 2022, is centered around the issue of unpaid allowances to jurors. The judge expressed hope that the jury would be available by the next scheduled date.
The delay in the trial has caused frustration among the family and friends of the deceased, Victoria Dapaah, a 26-year-old woman allegedly murdered by Inspector Twumasi. Due to the large number of family members and friends present, many were unable to enter the courtroom to observe the proceedings. Nana Addo Barima, a spokesperson for the family, conveyed their dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the trial to the Ghana News Agency (GNA). He emphasized the family's eagerness for the commencement of the cross-examination and expressed disappointment over the adjournment.
The case revolves around the accusation that Inspector Twumasi murdered Victoria Dapaah in cold blood near her home on April 20, following a dispute over money he claimed she owed him. The adjournment of the trial has added to the anguish of Dapaah's family, who are seeking a speedy trial and justice for the deceased.
