Addis ababa: A Burundian and a Kenyan youth have commended Ethiopia’s recent 7th General Election for showcasing a strong civic spirit. Sohange Ndayiragise Mabanga, a youth from Burundi, expressed her admiration for the peaceful and well-organized nature of the election, highlighting the smooth execution and the efforts of the government and organizers.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Mabanga shared her observations exclusively, stating, “I didn’t expect it to be this peaceful. The election was really organized, everything was smooth, and nothing stopped. I appreciate the government, the organizers, and everyone involved.” She encouraged those who are unfamiliar with Ethiopia to visit and witness the nation’s true spirit, emphasizing that firsthand experience is essential for understanding the Ethiopian people.
Mabanga praised the everyday kindness and civic pride of Ethiopians, describing them as “very kind and peace-loving citizens.” She suggested that social media users could learn from the Ethiopian
example of civic engagement and mutual respect.
Hanna Patric, a Kenyan residing in Ethiopia, echoed Mabanga’s sentiments, noting the peaceful nature of the election. She expressed her admiration for the calm and orderly process, stating, “The calm is very nice and so adorable… I love Ethiopia so much. I love the way you are doing things.” Patric also spoke positively about the strengthening friendship among East African nations.
Both youths highlighted the impressive voter turnout, the security measures that respected citizens’ rights, and the efficient operations at polling stations. Ethiopia’s election saw more than 54 million registered voters choosing among 42 political parties, 10,438 party candidates, and 80 independents, in what international observers described as a step forward in the country’s democratic journey.
