According to the United Nations System report, the global institution financed its various sectors of intervention in Burkina Faso in 2022, more than 580.4 million USD or more than 300 billion FCFA compared to 398 million USD or more than 200 billion FCFA in 2021, with an increase of 46%, in terms of resource mobilization.
The same document revealed that the financial execution rate in 2022 is 61% with an expenditure of nearly 355.4 million USD or more than 200 billion FCFA.
The United Nations system intervenes in four pillars of cooperation, namely strengthening instructions and access to justice, agriculture and population resilience, the fight against poverty and the prevention of climate risks as well as emergency response.
The resident coordinator of the United Nations system in Burkina Faso, Alain Akpdji was in Ouagadougou on Wednesday, in front of journalists to present the annual report of his institution for the year 2022.
He had by his side the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Eloi Kouadio IV, the resident representative of the United Nations Office of Humanitarian Affairs, Kristen Kutson and that of UNICEF.
According to Mr. Akpdji, the United Nations intervenes in Burkina according to the priorities and needs of the government in this difficult security and humanitarian context in the country.
He specified that cooperation with Burkina Faso is formalized through a United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2018-2023, the major objective of which is to contribute to the completion of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Alain Akpdji and his colleagues also stressed that the said plan is aligned with national priorities as set out in the Economic and Social Development Plan (PNDES) 2021-2025 and the Action for Stabilization and Development Plan (PASD), 2023-2025.
According to them, a total of 568,413 beneficiaries including women, girls and adolescents had access to curative, preventive and promotional health care, etc.
They, among other things, indicated that more than 270 million FCFA in loans were granted to 84,534 women members of savings groups for the implementation of income-generating activities.
In terms of social protection, they reported 1.2 million people benefited from aid, through the provision of food rations at 50% and 75% and cash transfer rations at 100%.
More than 115,000 victims of fistulas and obstetric complications were treated with minimum emergency services.
