General

Tain District, Bono Region - ActionAid Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization, has officially handed over a new girl-friendly Kindergarten block facility to the Namasa D/A 'B' School. The facility, located in the Tain District of the Bono Region, represents a significant investment in the region's educational infrastructure.

According to Ghana News Agency, the project, which cost GHC450,000, includes a two-unit classroom block, an office space, a mechanized borehole, toilet and urinal facilities, as well as essential furniture, learning materials, and a recreational center. Namasa D/A Basic B School, established by ActionAid Ghana in 2019, was a response to the overcrowding challenges at Namasa A.

Implemented under ActionAid Ghana's child sponsorship program, this initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that every child has access to quality education. The organization's goal is to create an environment conducive to learning, allowing children to pursue their educational aspirations.

At the ceremony, Mr. Justin Bayor, the Head of Programmes at ActionAid Ghana, emphasized the vital role of quality education in equipping children with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in a complex world. He highlighted that education is a key tool in breaking the cycle of poverty and enabling children to contribute positively to society.

Mr. Bayor also pointed out that ActionAid Ghana's commitment to education goes beyond building infrastructure. The organization is deeply involved in teacher training programs, community engagement initiatives, and advocating for inclusive education. Since 2001, ActionAid Ghana has constructed 22 model kindergarten schools with recreational facilities, four childcare centers, and two girl-friendly blocks in the Bono and Ahafo Regions.

Dr. Mrs. Lucy Acheampong, Tain District Chief Executive, highlighted the crucial role of preschool education in laying a strong foundation for children's overall educational journey. She emphasized the importance of equipping young learners with essential skills and knowledge for their future educational pursuits.

Mr. Alhassan Issifu, the Headmaster of Namasa D/A 'B' School, noted the school's current student population of 426, an increase from 251, since the completion of the new facilities. He attributed this rise to the enhanced learning environment provided by ActionAid Ghana. Issifu called on the education directorate to assign additional Early Childhood Education teachers to the school to further improve the quality of teaching and learning.

The inauguration of this facility marks a significant milestone in the efforts to provide quality educational opportunities to children in the Tain District, particularly focusing on creating a supportive environment for young girls.
