UNOPS Reaffirms Support for Africa 2030 Agenda in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA — The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has reiterated its sustained support for the Africa 2030 Agenda and the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to Ethiopian News Agency, A statement from UNOPS, made during a Partner’s Day Workshop, highlighted the organization’s intent to maintain its assistance for health, education, and improved living conditions in the coming years. Worknesh Mekonnen, the UNOPS Multi-Country Office Director, emphasized the organization’s role within the United Nations Country Team in Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Djibouti, and its commitment to contributing to national development priorities and the SDGs.

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia, Ramiz Alakbarov, underscored the need for enhanced partnerships to mobilize resources, coordinate efforts more effectively, and achieve efficient delivery by focusing on the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.

UNOPS, recognized as the United Nations’ operational arm, is tasked with facilitating various aid and development projects, with an annual portfolio of 2.2 billion USD. Since the establishment of its Multi-Country Office in 2014, UNOPS has been instrumental in delivering comprehensive project management, procurement, and infrastructure services across Ethiopia and neighboring countries, providing over 1 billion USD in services to its partners in the last six years.
