Speaker of Parliament Emphasizes Value-Based Education at Christian Service University College’s 50th Anniversary

Kumasi, Ghana – Mr. Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has underscored the importance of integrating values and ethics in academic pursuits. He stressed that the inculcation of these principles is essential for building a just and compassionate society. This statement was made during a visit by a delegation from the Christian Service University College (CSUC), Kumasi, to Parliament House as part of the institution’s 50th anniversary celebration.

According to Ghana News Agency, the visit led by Professor Sam K. Afrane, President of CSUC, included Mr. Andrew Kingsley Doku, Registrar of CSUC; Pastor Samuel Eduamah; Reverend Justice Boffah Poku Mensah, the Director of Institutional Advancement Office and Public Affairs. The delegation’s visit aimed to strengthen partnership with Parliament and explore avenues for collaboration on critical institutional projects as CSUC commemorates its golden jubilee. It also served as a formal invitation to the Speaker for the school’s grand anniversary durbar in September 2024.

Recognizing the significant role of faith-based academic institutions in nation-building and quality human resource development, Mr. Bagbin encouraged CSUC to continue influencing society through sound doctrine and ethical education.

Professor Afrane, in his address, lauded the Speaker for his leadership in promoting democratic ideals in Ghana’s Parliament. He outlined four key institutional projects including the installation of solar energy, a youth leadership development scholarship scheme, acquisition of a bus for the Nursing and Midwifery Department, and upgrading the Information Technology infrastructure. These initiatives, he believed, would transform CSUC into a leading institution for ethical and transformational leadership.

Highlighting the College’s achievements, Professor Afrane mentioned that CSUC had consistently ranked third in nationwide licensure examinations for nursing and midwifery for three consecutive years. He also recognized notable alumni, including Prof. Emmanuel Asante, former Chairman of the National Peace Council; Rt Rev Prof Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana; Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor, 2023 Journalist of the Year (Multimedia Group); and Mr. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, former Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso and Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong.

CSUC, a liberal arts evangelical institution based in Kumasi, has contributed significantly to Ghana’s socio-economic development over the past 50 years. Starting in January 1974 as a merger of Ghanaian interdenominational evangelical groups and expatriate missionaries, it has grown from a class of five students to a reputable non-denominational Christian University College.
