Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Highlights Ethiopia’s Mineral Wealth as Key to Prosperity
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has underscored the significance of the country’s mineral resources as a foundational element in its journey towards prosperity.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized Ethiopia’s unique position compared to other African nations, due to its vast mineral wealth. He noted that these resources are crucial not only for bolstering Ethiopia’s import substitution efforts but also for supporting various development sectors including agriculture and industry.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the mining sector is a major contributor to the country’s foreign currency reserves. He pointed out that the expo clearly demonstrates Ethiopia’s wealth in gold, precious stones, and a variety of other minerals.
Prime Minister Abiy urged researchers, business people, and other stakeholders to actively participate in developing Ethiopia’s mineral resources to expedite the growth of the national economy. He emphasized the importance of the expo in facilitating a deeper understanding of the sector, and in developing and utilizing it effectively to establish a foundation for the country’s path to prosperity.
The Mining and Technology Expo, which is believed to showcase Ethiopia’s mining potential, is aimed at stimulating investment in the sector. Mining has been identified as one of the five priorities in the government’s Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda, highlighting the necessity to promote the sector for the country’s benefit.
The five-day expo is designed to attract investors in mining and technology providers, showcasing the opportunities available in Ethiopia’s mining sector.
Attending the opening of the expo, organized by the Ministry of Mines, were notable figures including National Intelligence and Security Service Director-General Temesgen Tiruneh, House of Federation Speaker Agegnehu Teshager, Chief Regional Administrators, and senior government officials. This gathering underscore the Ethiopian government’s commitment to leveraging its mineral resources as a cornerstone for economic development.
