NPP Completes Vetting for Parliamentary Primaries in Orphan Constituencies

Western North – The Western North Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has completed the vetting process for 10 parliamentary aspirants aiming to represent the party in five orphan constituencies in the region. The NPP currently holds parliamentary seats in three of the nine constituencies in the Western North region: Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Wiawso, and Akontombra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Regional Secretary of the party, 11 candidates initially filed nominations for the primaries. However, Mr. Evans Amoah, who intended to contest in the Bia East constituency, withdrew from the race. This withdrawal has left Mr. Nicholas Kupog Yayin, the District Chief Executive of Bia East and the party’s 2020 parliamentary candidate, as the sole contender for the seat.

Mr. Ackah informed the Ghana News Agency that the vetting committee cleared all 10 remaining aspirants to participate in the parliamentary primary scheduled for December 2. In the Bodi constituency, the aspirants include Mr. Samuel Opoku Nyame, Mr. Nicholas Andoh, and Mr. Francis Atta Owusu. For the Juaboso constituency, Mr. Alex Ampaabeng and Mrs. Martha Kwayie Manu will vie for the nomination. The Aowin constituency will see a contest between Mr. Abanga Yakubu Fuseini and Mr. Isaac Brew. In Bia West, Mr. Benard Blay, the District Chief Executive, and Mr. Franklin Cudjoe, the constituency chairman, are the aspirants.

Furthermore, Mr. Frederick Addy was earlier acclaimed as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Suaman constituency, as he was the sole nominee at the close of nominations in September.

Mr. Ackah urged all aspirants and their supporters to engage in respectful and issue-based campaigning to maintain party unity. He stressed the importance of this approach for the party’s cohesion and success in the upcoming 2024 elections. The Regional Secretary expressed optimism about the NPP’s prospects, citing the party’s increased vote count in the 2020 general elections and its potential to win additional seats in 2024.
