Accra - The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is set to present a draft Legislative Instrument to Parliament, aimed at operationalizing the Ghana Geological Survey Authority's (GGSA) Act, 2016 (Act 928). This move is expected to make the GGSA more responsive to Ghana's industrial development agenda and contribute to the country's socio-economic advancement.
According to Ghana News Agency,the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Mines, the Legislative Instrument (L.I) will enhance the Authority's capacity to carry out geological mapping, assessments, and monitor geological hazards and risks. The year-long celebration of GGSA's 110th Anniversary, under the theme 'Ghana's Sustainable Industrial and Socio-Economic Development: The Pivotal Role of the Ghana Geological Survey Authority', will feature public lectures, symposiums, exhibitions, seminars, and an international conference.
Mr. Duker emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement and outreach programs in implementing the Act successfully. He also highlighted the need for GGSA to educate communities about natural disasters and resource management. Mr. Isaac Kuuwan Mwinbelle, Acting Director-General of GGSA, traced the Authority's history from its inception in 1913 as the Gold Coast Geological Survey to its current status. He noted GGSA's significant role in identifying various mineral resources, making Ghana a key player in the natural resource sector. The Authority plans to unveil a 10-year strategic plan to advance Ghana's industrial transformation agenda and invest in cutting-edge technology to fulfill its mandate.
