The Nakambé Water Agency met on August 30, 2024 with the occupants of the banks of the Naftenga dam to demarcate the perimeter of the hydraulic structure and protect it from siltation, pollution and any other degradation.An information and awareness meeting for the occupants of the banks of the Naftenga dam was held this Friday, August 30, 2024 in the meeting room of the Koupéla town hall. Organized by the Nakambé Water Agency, this meeting aimed to inform the said occupants about the protection and management measures of the dam.It was chaired by Alice Belemviré/Nikiema, President of the Special Delegation of the commune of Koupéla, and brought together all the key players involved in the management of the dam as well as representatives of the technical services.The main challenge of this meeting was to raise awareness among local residents about the importance of demarcating the dam perimeter. According to Cathérine Tankoano/Zonou, head of the support-advice department at the Nakambé Water Agency, th is initiative is part of a partnership between the Nakambé Water Agency, the Gourma Water Agency and the Liptako Water Agency, in collaboration with Enabel."This action aims to protect the dam protection zone in order to avoid siltation, pollution and any other degradation of the quality or quantity of water. The delimitation is therefore an essential first step, and other actions will follow to strengthen it. Thanks to our discussions, we have requested the help of local populations to ensure the success of this delimitation," she reassured.The residents of the banks of the Naftenga dam present at this meeting welcomed this initiative. Aware of the importance of sustainable management of the dam, they committed to relaying the information acquired to their respective communities. "This is a very commendable initiative that will allow us to maintain our dam and pass it on in good condition to our descendants. We are very happy to benefit from this support. Upon our return, we will inform the other members of the community so that they are all aware of the actions planned by the Nakambé Water Agency," said the Kiendpaalgo-Naaba of Naftenga.Alice Belemviré/Nikiema, president of the Special Delegation of the commune of Koupéla, stressed the importance of this delimitation, not only for the village of Naftenga, but also for the entire commune."This is an aging structure that requires regular maintenance work.
