JICA Praises Ethiopia’s Efforts to Transform Agrarian Economy to Industry

Addis ababa: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Ethiopia has appreciated the commitment that Ethiopia has upheld in transforming its economy from agriculture to industry-based. Kensuke OSHIMA, Chief Representative, JICA Ethiopia Office, shared insights with ENA on Ethiopia’s significant shift from an agricultural to an industrial economy.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Oshima recalled his visit to Ethiopia 20 years ago and noted the multifaceted changes in the country today. He reaffirmed JICA’s commitment to enhancing development cooperation with Ethiopia, acknowledging the long-standing partnership between the two countries.

The country’s strategic focus on industrialization is supported by substantial investments in sectors such as education, health, and infrastructure. JICA’s development initiatives cover crucial areas including agriculture, rural development, infrastructure, industrialization, and education.

Oshima highlighted successful collaborations aimed at promoting market-oriented agriculture, increasing rice productivity, and advancing water sector development. JICA also emphasizes capacity building to strengthen institutional frameworks and human capital in Ethiopia.

The ongoing development projects in Addis Ababa and other regions illustrate the country’s success, as stated by Oshima. He concluded by reiterating JICA’s commitment to working closely with the Ethiopian government to foster sustainable and inclusive development.
