Ethiopian Ambassador Advocates for Digitization in Seoul Technology Forum
ADDIS ABABA: Ambassador Dessie Dalkie, the Ethiopian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, emphasized the importance of digitization for Africa’s development during the Global Korea Forum 2023 in Seoul.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ambassador Dessie highlighted the potential for collaboration between the Republic of Korea and Africa in science and technology. He pointed out that Ethiopia and other African nations could greatly benefit from Korea’s advancements in information and communication technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence.
Commissioner Mekuria Haile of Ethiopia’s Civil Service Commission spoke about Korea’s best practices in science and technology, showcasing the opportunities for cooperation between Africa and the Republic of Korea. He also stressed the importance of technology transfer from Korea to Africa, facilitated by support programs like Korean Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Ambassador Woon-Ki Lyeo, President of the Korea-African Foundation, recalled Ethiopia’s support for South Korea during the Korean War and called for stronger ties between Africa and the Republic of Korea, particularly in science and technology. The forum was attended by the President of the Science and Technology Policy Institute of Korea, African Ambassadors in Korea, Korean government officials, and researchers.
