Ethiopia, Slovenia Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Addis Ababa: Ethiopia and Slovenia held their third political consultation today with the aim of deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two nations. In his opening remarks, Foreign Affairs State Minister Hadera Abera highlighted the potential for cooperation between Ethiopia and Slovenia, emphasizing that the dialogue provides an opportunity for enhancing mutual understanding, identifying new areas for collaboration, and formulating strategies to boost bilateral trade and investment.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the political consultation will review current engagements and explore new avenues for economic cooperation. The sectors of foreign direct investment, trade, education, and technology transfer, particularly in beekeeping, are prioritized areas in future engagements. Ethiopia is among the fastest-growing economies globally and is pursuing rapid green and sustainable development. The government’s comprehensive macroeconomic reform agenda offers significant investment opportunities.
Hadera noted that service sectors previously closed to foreign investment, such as telecom and finance, have now been liberalized. The government has also made substantial investments in infrastructure across the country, presenting a promising avenue for Slovenian public and private sectors to engage and invest in Ethiopia. On the multilateral front, Ethiopia and Slovenia share common views on various global issues, including sustainable development, migration, and combating terrorism, making strengthening cooperation essential for advancing the national interests of the two countries.
Slovenia’s Foreign Affairs State Secretary Marko €¦ tucin emphasized that Ethiopia is an important partner both in the region and in the global environment. Slovenia’s recent establishment of an embassy in Addis Ababa is seen as a strategic move to enhance diplomatic engagement with Ethiopia and other African nations. The foreign affairs state secretary also revealed that the upcoming visit of President Nata€¦¡a Pirc Musar to Ethiopia is a significant commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across sectors, including investment and trade. Slovenia’s President Natasa Pirc Musar is expected to arrive in Addis Ababa this evening for an official visit to Ethiopia.
