Bono East Regional House of Chiefs Advocates for Resolution of Chieftaincy Disputes
Techiman – Nana Yaw Pimampim Kabrese IV, the President of the Bono East Region House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area, has called for the resolution of ongoing chieftaincy disputes in the region to foster peace and socio-economic development. Speaking at the Bono East Region Coordinating Council’s 2023-year meeting in Techiman, Nana Kabrese emphasized the urgent need to address these disputes that are negatively impacting the region’s progress.
According to Ghana News Agency, the high rate of chieftaincy disputes throughout the Bono East Region poses a significant challenge to its development. He noted that there were disputes in nearly every part of the region, underscoring the necessity of resolving these conflicts to ensure that the people could benefit from effective leadership. Of the 19 recorded chieftaincy disputes, 12 have been resolved, with seven remaining. Nana Kabrese mentioned ongoing efforts to establish a dispute resolution council specifically aimed at addressing such issues.
Nana Kabrese also highlighted the critical role of educating the youth on the importance of maintaining peace and understanding the value of unity in resolving disputes. He expressed concern over the youth’s involvement in violence and emphasized the need to make them aware of the potential dangers to their future. Encouraging them to turn away from violence and irresponsible influences is seen as vital for the region’s stability.
The Paramount Chief also addressed the recent shooting incident in Kintampo on November 10, 2023, which resulted in one fatality and several injuries. He expressed concern that such incidents could deter potential investors and negatively impact the region’s economic prospects.
Mr. Kwasi Adu-Gyan, Chairman of the Bono East Regional Security Council, assured collaboration with traditional authorities and partners to restore peace in affected areas. He acknowledged that development cannot occur without peace and informed that security agencies were actively working to restore calm in the Kintampo area. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that residents can safely continue their daily activities and farming without fear.
The meeting and the discussions therein reflect a concerted effort by regional leaders to address the root causes of conflict and foster a peaceful environment conducive to development and prosperity in the Bono East Region.
